Movie Review: Fireproof

NEVER LEAVE YOUR PARTNER BEHIND........

Fireproof is an excellent movie about the power of forgiveness. Caleb (Kirk Cameron)a firman, and his doctor wife Catherine's (Erin Bethea) marriage is in trouble to the point of them wanting a divorce. Caleb wants the repect of his wife while she wants to be listened to and helped with household chores. Although Caleb rescues many people from burning buildings, he is having difficulty rescuing his own marriage until God intervenes.

Caleb's father sends him a tool - the "Love Dare" which is supposed to last for 40 days, with the hope that Caleb and Catherine will be able to save their marriage. It's hard at first but when Caleb has an encounter with God and puts his heart into the "love dare", we see a transformed man. From simply going through the motions, Caleb learns what genuine love is. His attitude and outlook on marriage change. He learns to really love his wife again and she learns to trust him and desires to have what he has i.e. Jesus Christ. It's really inspirational.

This movie just re-inforced for me again that

1. Nothing is impossible with God.

2. The day to day things we do matter.

3. Don't take your spouse for granted.

4. Having prayer support is crucial.

5. Having trusted and genuine friends is important but also having them see things as they really are and speak into one's life for the improvement of the marriage is important.

6. Forgiveness is important.

I like the saying: "A woman is like a rose. If you treat her right, she'll bloom. If you don't, she'll wilt."

Fireproof is a great movie and paves the way for discussion.
