Family Impact and the River
of Life PVO have been involved in a family, health and nutrition project in the
Matobo area since September 2011. This April the team interviewed some
community members to find out if the training had made any difference in their
lives.
A volunteer trained by
Family Impact under the intervention said that the training had highlighted the
importance of building a strong, loving family. The woman, who lives with her
husband and child, said previously she did not fully understand what a family
and an extended family was. She now aspires to have an extended family in their
homestead and to promote stronger, loving families within her community. She
also said the training had improved her communication and problem solving skills.
The most significant
response to her training observed by the team was the building of a toilet in
their homestead. “When we were taught about health issues I was challenged
mostly by the need for safe hygiene practices. My husband and I agreed about the
need for a toilet in our homestead and we are currently building one "
The most immediate health
challenge facing the community now is that they do not have access to clean
water. They are hoping that they will be able to get assistance to sink a borehole
in the community.

The exciting thing about this is that the family attend Crossroads and the womans husband - Sylvester is not only one of the emerging leaders working closely with Stephen but he is also employed - running the small Tuckshop at Crossroads and the Grinding Mill.
Crossroads is also in the process of working on a Water Project which will give the community access to clean water. God is good!
