The importance of respect
Respect is a 'feeling of admiration for somebody or something because of their good qualities or achievements.' Proverbs 13:5 tells us: "A person with good sense is respected."
Respect can never be demanded. It has to be earned. Someone doesn't necessarily deserve respect because of their position. You may have to obey their instructions, but that doesn't mean you have to automatically respect them.
Respect comes from leading by example...................................................................................................
The problem today is that people demand respect because of the office they hold. They don't realise that people may say they respect you, but in their hearts despise you.
The people employed on your farm may be doing what you tell them to, but are you sure they respect you? Often, once you've earned their respect, those who used to only do the bare minimum of work, will now go the extra mile for you. But it takes time. You can't earn the respect of somebody in a day, a month or even a year - it takes a lifetime.
Respect is also not about making huge amounts of money. It's about lifestyle.
My dear friends, we need to imitate our Lord Jesus Christ..................................................................
...............................................................................................................................................................
In Matthew 16:24, we're told: "Unless we deny ourselves, take up our cross and follow Him daily we cannot be His disciples."
The bottom line is, if we want people to respect us, we need to put other people first in our lives and look after their well-being. Then they'll respect and honour us.
