Sam Poe did brilliantly at Crossroads when he told the story from God's word on Rahab. How did this prostitute end up in the list with men and women of great faith? What does it all mean?
Sam had a time of discussion and some answers were as follows:
1. No matter what the sin, God still loves you and will rescue you.
2. God blessed Rahab's faith.
3. God promised through the spies that he would save Rahab and her family even though the city was going to be destroyed. What a faithful, saving God we have.
4. Rahab cared about her family. God is looking for a family made up of people from every nation. Rahab became part of the family of God because she trusted in God.
5. Rahab believed the stories of the true God of the Israelites. She had faith and became one of the ancestors of Jesus Christ.
It's an unusual story - Rahab was from a pagan culture and her job was prostituting herself. She would sell her body and have sex for money. She had fallen into a deep dark hole. Her culture was full of evil ways and God was going to destroy the city. But, one lady believed the stories of the God of Israel and how he saves. Rahab wanted the God of Israel to save her and her family. She wanted to belong to the Israelite people and have their culture. She was willing to leave her culture and her business. Other people in Jericho also heard the stories but they didn't want to have a part of the God of Israel. They were afraid and hardened their hearts. God judges evil. When Rahab told her family that the city was going to be destroyed and that they would be saved, they believed her.
You see, Jesus paid the ultimate price so that we can be saved.
What an excellent service!
