The aim of the workshop was to learn from each other and teach each other on Sexual Reproductive Health, Menstruation and Cancer. The practical work was on how to make sanitary pads. When the discussion started, the ladies were somewhat embarrassed but when they got over their embarrassment, their contributions were fast, somewhat controversial and really funny. There was alot of laughter as the women shared their knowledge on the different topics. some included and questioned beliefs held in the African traditional religion.
What is Sexual Reproductive Health? The World Health Organisation (WHO) defines it as a state of physical, emotional, mental and social well-being related to sexuality; it is not merely the absence of disease, dysfunction or infirmity. Sexual Health requires a positive and respectful approach to sexuality and sexual relationships. For sexual health to be attained and maintained, the sexual rights of all persons must be respected, protected and fulfilled.
The topic on menstruation focused on what is a period and cleanliness during your period while the session on Cancers focused on breast, cervical and prostate cancer.
The ladies really enjoyed themselves and are looking forward to the next meeting in June.
